Good Afternoon,

We have had professional learning time for the past three days at Hermon Middle School. I think it is important for the community to know what we do these days. Over the past three days:

-We met as a staff to learn about the new and renewed procedures of the 2022-23 school year.
-We met as grade levels to discuss student needs and the SEBR process.
-We met as staff to review data and build our school goals.
-We had an incredibly successful open house.
-We prepared our classrooms.

*SEBR is a report each parent will receive every 4-5 weeks to review student effort, work completion, and class preparedness.

Our school's goals for the 2022-23 school year are:

- Hemon Middle School will increase student attendance, excluding COVID-mandated absences, to 95.5%. The data clearly shows that COVID-19 reduced student attendance. This data will be collected and reviewed in June 2023.
- Hermon Middle School will increase student at or above grade level percentages in math by 3% in each grade level. We will be reviewing students fall to fall scores as this is the most accurate representation of student performance. This data will be collected and reviewed in October 2023.
- Hermon Middle School will become more consistent in its expectations for all students. Due to COVID-19 and due to differing methods of data input, there is no clear data on this topic. During the 2022-23 school year, we will create a common language around behaviors, develop a behavioral framework for the school, and ensure consistent data input into our SWIS program. In June 2023, there will be a review of the data entered.

Lastly, I shared with the Hermon Middle School staff my vision for Hermon Middle School:

My vision for Hermon Middle School is to provide each student with an educational experience second to none in the entire state of Maine. Hermon Middle School students will want to attend school because they have fostered great relationships with staff. Hermon Middle School students will have an educational experience that pushes them to their full potential. An educational experience that will prepare them for high school and beyond. We will provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum to each student.

I look forward to a great year ahead! We begin Tuesday; students should be here between 7:30 and 7:45.

Have a great weekend,
Zack Freeman
