Back to School Clipart

Good afternoon, HMS Families,

First, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the families who attended today’s open house. It was wonderful to welcome you into the building as we prepare for the new school year.

School begins on Tuesday, September 1. Please review the following important information and updates.

Tuesday Morning Arrival

Students should be dropped off between 7:25 and 7:45 a.m. Parent drop-off is located behind the building.

Once your vehicle reaches the area marked with white lines, please have your student exit promptly. Waiting to reach the front of the line causes traffic to back up onto Billings Road. We anticipate heavier-than-normal traffic during the first few days of school.

If your schedule allows, we recommend arriving around 7:35 a.m. The initial rush typically subsides by then, and traffic moves more smoothly.

Supporting a Successful Start

During each of the first two school days, students will spend approximately two hours with their homeroom teachers. This time will help students:

  • Become acquainted with their teachers and classmates

  • Learn schoolwide and classroom expectations

  • Practice accessing and using their lockers

  • Locate their classrooms

  • Become comfortable with their daily routines

We also encourage families to help students gradually return to an earlier bedtime and wake-up time during the final few days of summer. Reestablishing this routine can make the transition back to school much easier.

Student Effort and Behavior Report

We are introducing several new and improved initiatives this year, including updates to our Student Effort and Behavior Report. Please review the following document for additional information:

Updated Grading Procedures

We have also updated our grading procedures. Families may review the complete grading procedures.

We have also created grade-specific infographics that summarize the expectations:

Student Handbook

Several updates have been made to our student handbook. We encourage all families to review the 2026–27 HMS Student Handbook.

Supply Lists

A copy of our supply lists can be found here.

Bus Routes

We have sent a copy of our bus routes through email for each bus run. If you did not receive yours, please email Mrs. Dearborn at patricia.dearborn@schools.hermon.net.

Extracurricular Activities and Online Resources

We have created a new guide highlighting our extracurricular activities. The second page includes QR codes that provide quick access to daily announcements, the HMS website, athletics information, menus, and our social media pages.
