Hermon Middle School Community,
Today, we had to use a “code door,” which was the first time in a couple of years, and it caused some anxiety among our students. Teachers explained, but as a parent, I want you to be aware as well. “Code door” simply means there is a student situation in the hallway that requires privacy. It is not related to any school safety concerns. If it were a school safety situation, we would use plain language to explain the situation according to our ALICE protocol.
As we approach the end of Quarter 3 on April 3rd, we encourage students to take time now to review their assignments and communicate with teachers about any remaining work. Finishing the quarter strong means staying organized, asking for help when needed, and making the most of these final days. Thank you for your continued support at home in helping students manage deadlines and responsibilities.
A sincere thank you to our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) for hosting the dirty soda buffet today. It was a fun and much‑appreciated treat for staff, and we are grateful for the continued support and creativity the PAC brings to our school community.
We’re also looking forward to tonight’s school dances, which will be held from 5:00–6:30 p.m. for students in grades 5 and 6, and from 7:00–8:30 p.m. for students in grades 7 and 8. Admission is $5, and the dance is spring‑themed, so students are encouraged to dress in festive, school‑appropriate attire. We appreciate families’ support in reinforcing expectations so everyone can enjoy a safe and positive evening.
Book Title: Restart by Gordon Korman
Why We Recommend It:
Restart follows Chase Ambrose, an eighth‑grade boy who wakes up after an accident with no memory of his past—and must figure out who he wants to be moving forward. With short chapters, strong character development, and realistic middle school dynamics, the book strongly connects with boys while exploring themes of accountability, empathy, and second chances. It’s an engaging, accessible read that sparks meaningful reflection and discussion for middle school students.
