Hermon Middle School Community,
We hope everyone enjoys their long weekend! As a reminder, tomorrow is a professional development day for faculty and staff. This coming Thursday is our annual faculty versus 8th-grade student basketball game! This is an annual fundraiser for the end-of-the-year events. This is a cash event and includes a silent auction, food, and a fun game!
We wanted to make families aware that Needoh stress balls have recently begun causing significant issues in our building. When these items break, they create a large mess that requires extensive cleaning, and some grade levels have already had to ban them entirely due to recurring problems.
Students may continue to have Needohs as long as they use them responsibly. However, if misuse continues, we may need to consider a school‑wide ban to ensure our learning spaces remain clean and safe.

Book Title: New Kid by Jerry Craft
Why We Recommend It:
New Kid is an award‑winning graphic novel that follows Jordan Banks, a seventh‑grader who begins attending a prestigious private school where he’s one of the few students of color. The book explores themes of identity, belonging, navigating new environments, and building confidence—all through approachable humor and engaging illustrations. Its relatable characters and real‑world situations make it an excellent conversation starter for students and families. The graphic novel format also appeals to a wide range of readers, including those who prefer visual storytelling.
